Holden'isms

Six yrs: "Actually"; "and by the way"
1-2 yrs: "duck-a-duck-a-duck-a-duck"

Play Through

Easter weekend we were in Coral Canyon enjoying the Southern Utah sun as a family when we thought it was much too quite, and in fact it was... the boys had left the house, gone through the fence and were on the Coral Canyon golf course. The golfers were at a stand still while yelling at the boys to get out of the way (technically they weren't in the way, they were in the brush to the side of the players). The boys were ignoring them and hoping they would "play through". Just as Joel was going to get them the boys were ushered into a golf cart by the golf marshal and escorted to the club house. Joel yelled to the marshal saying the boys "belonged at this house" but I think purposefully avoided claiming the boys as his own. The marshal yelled back that the sheriff would handle it and this was good enough for Joel (we sometimes pray for the sheriff to get involved when it comes to the boys... OK not really but kind of). A few minutes later the golf cart arrived at the house with two sheepish boys who we suspect had received and earful of expletives explaining why they were never to find themselves back on the golf course.

Lost tooth

Last night Holden had a loose tooth that he really wanted to come out while he was at school. He kept talking about the cool little box they give you if you loose your tooth and get to go to the office for "the box". Well last night while getting his pj's on his tooth caught on his shirt and popped out. We spent 10 minutes trying to find it in his room and finally we did. This morning he was putting it in his mouth like he hadn't lost it... his plan was to "loose his tooth" at school and get the cool box. I told him that if he wants the box he shouldn't pretend that he lost it at school that he should just put it in a bag and ask them directly during lunch or recess, I also said that if he has it in his mouth he is likely to really loose the tooth or swallow it. He of course didn't listen and went on his way as he had planned with the tooth in his mouth. As I was walking Ridge to school shortly after Holdy left we rounded the corner and saw Holden on the ground searching through the grass crying huge tears. The poor little boy had really lost his tooth.

Money Chores

Holden and Ridge were trying to earn money for their school carnival. From the list bellow Holden kept himself very busy and quickly earned enough for his wristband. Ridge avoided the work and the list for as long as possible, he finally read the list and came to ask me (fully knowing the answer) if he could have $3 for "using the bathroom"! I laughed and said good try buddy! He was sheepish but a little tempted to argue with me... finally he agreed to do actual work appropriate for his being six not four and he was able to earn some cash.

Team-Ager = Teenager

Holden asked Joel what a Team-Ager (teenager) was. Joel explained that when you turn 13 you become a teenager and remain one until 19. After this explanation Holden lit up and exclaimed "OH! I thought there was a TEAM-Ager and I wondered how you got on it!" (this has been a hot topic because Gray is now a teen and has an appealing life from the twins perspective and they want to have the same rules as she does)

Better than Mom's kisses

Ridge tried Nutella today and told me it was better than mom's kisses. I had to retort that nothing is better than mom's kisses. He replied that Nutella was in fact better and that I should get over it.

Dumb Parts

Holden said that a friend of his came over that had a hole in his head, the "friend" "told" Holden that he didn't know how he got the hole and that his parents took a look in the hole found a string and ended up pulling part of the kids brain out.
I said that I thought it was sad that his friends parents pulled out part of his brain and that I hoped he was okay. Holden replied that it was okay because the parents had pulled the "Dumb Part!" of the kids brain out.
